Apotheke
Updated: September 11, 2026
Apotheke is a Brooklyn home fragrance brand selling candles, reed diffusers, room sprays, soaps, lotions and bath products, plus candle and perfume making classes at its own studio. The catalogue is organised by collection and by scent family, and the site states the products are hand poured in Brooklyn from a soy wax blend. The brand describes itself as “inspired by the unexpected beauty found in life’s simple moments”. Built on Shopify.
Website Design
A condensed grotesque over a neutral sans. Founders Grotesk Condensed Semibold carries display headings, with Untitled Sans for body copy and the Shopify theme’s Inter behind the interface. Both brand faces are self hosted.
Black on white, with nothing else. The base colour scheme is a white background with foreground text at rgb 41, 39, 40 and body copy at rgb 15, 15, 15. Buttons invert the same two values rather than introducing an accent, so colour enters only through product photography and seasonal artwork.
The homepage is organised as a season. A fall story block leads, naming its six returning scents, then two full-width scent features, a quiz prompt, a tabbed bestseller grid, a category row, the studio and the blog. Section labels run in capitals against sentence case body copy.
Shopping Experience
Scent family sits above the price. Every product card prints its fragrance family, Woody, Citrus, Floral or Aromatic, then a one line scent summary, then the price and an Add to Cart control. Tabs switch the same grid between Candles, Diffusers, Room Spray and Body Care.
Subscription is a choice in the buy box. Product pages present One-Time Purchase against Subscribe and Save 10% side by side, with a delivery frequency selector offering monthly, two monthly and three monthly, and a $10 flat shipping rate for subscribers.
Product pages lead with the scent pyramid. Top, middle and bottom notes are listed before anything else, followed by accordions covering the vessel and its dimensions, ingredients with a formulated-without list, shipping, candle care and a provenance panel giving burn time.
Reviews are summarised before they are shown. A rating out of five sits above a generated summary and weighted topics such as Appearance, Burn Experience and Scent, with individual reviews below, including critical ones.
Brand Storytelling
Collections are named, not numbered. The Signature Collection, the Charcoal Collection and the Fall Collection each list their scents by name in the menu, which lets the navigation work as a scent index.
The founding story runs through the blog. Posts cover a Brooklyn kitchen soap kit, growth into Target, and collaborations with a florist and the New York Botanical Garden.
Notable Features
A studio with a booking flow. Candle making, perfume making and partner classes are sold as products alongside gift class vouchers and at-home kits.
A one minute fragrance quiz. Five questions route shoppers to matching scents, promoted from the header, the homepage and the main menu.
Mystery boxes and a rewards club. Classic and Premium Mystery Boxes sit under Subscriptions, and a points programme advertising over 10,000 members earns a point per dollar.
A written 404. A missing product returns “This scent has faded” with category counts and a bestseller row rather than a generic error.
