Atipo Foundry is a Spanish independent type foundry and graphic design studio selling downloadable typefaces to designers and developers, alongside a custom typeface service for brands and a collection of font-pairing design templates. The catalogue runs to more than 40 families, most offered on a pay-what-you-want basis with one weight included free. The site states its outlook directly: it creates typefaces “from the point of view of a graphic designer and not as if we were font designers.” Built on a custom Vue.js front end rather than an off-the-shelf ecommerce platform.
Website Design
A black and off-white system. The palette holds to near-monochrome: black text and interface elements against an off-white ground, with a mid grey reserved for secondary copy. Color is left almost entirely to the typefaces themselves.
The type is the brand mark. Body copy and navigation run in Atipo, the foundry’s own custom webfont, loaded through embedded font declarations rather than a system or Google font. It doubles as a working demonstration of the product.
A dense specimen grid. The Fonts page lists each family as a card: a rendered word mark or specimen line, a style count, and a one-line pricing note such as “6 styles, medium for free, complete family pay what you want.” Cards run edge to edge with minimal spacing, favoring density over showcase-style whitespace.
Shopping Experience
Try before you download. Each font’s product page opens a “try” tool with size, sentence, paragraph, alphabet, numerals and custom-text views, letting a visitor test the face in the browser before acquiring it.
Pay what you want, or nothing. Most families offer one weight as a free download; the complete family is priced through a pay-what-you-want control. Two alternate routes appear on product pages, “pay with tweet” and “pay with share,” trading a social post for the download instead of payment.
Two license tiers, spelled out on the page. The License page states terms directly: a desktop license covers up to five workstations at one location, and a webfont license covers one website at unlimited pageviews without renewal, with larger licenses routed to a direct email address.
OpenType detail on the product page. Individual font pages list supported features such as tabular figures, fractions, superiors and ordinals, plus the range of Latin-based languages each family covers.
Brand Storytelling
A stated point of view. The homepage line, positioning the studio against “font designers,” ties every family back to the idea that its makers are graphic designers first.
A custom-work portfolio. The Custom page lists commissioned typefaces for named clients, including Antena 3 Noticias, Antena 3, La Sexta and Stern Magazine of RTL Group, each entry carrying a year, client, commissionary credit and a short project description.
Notable Features
A separate templates shop. The Pairs section sells collections of design templates built around Atipo font pairings, covering categories such as cosmetics, apparel, posters, branding, logos and books, each listed with a template count and total font-weight count.
Social payment as a checkout option. Alongside a conventional cart and pay-what-you-want field, the pay-with-tweet and pay-with-share options work as a second path to the same download, substituting a share action for payment.
