Lavenham sells quilted jackets, gilets and accessories for men and women, made at its own factory in Suffolk. The store describes the company as “A British Factory Brand Specialising in Quilted Outerwear”, founded in 1969 and still producing every item six miles from the original factory in Lavenham village. The menswear department alone holds 91 products priced from £170 to £455, split into Just Made, Classics, Gilets, Jackets, Other Styles and Collaborations. Built on Shopify with a custom theme.

Website Design

Plantin over Gill Sans. Headings are set in Plantin Light, a bookish old-style serif, while navigation, product names and body copy run in Gill Sans. The pairing reads more like a catalogue than a fashion site.

A near-black and off-white base. Core tokens are a near-black #111111 for text, a mid grey #4f4f4f and an off-white #f0f0f0, with navy #11223d as the primary accent and a muted gold #87754e held in reserve. Layout runs on a 24 column grid.

Colourways named in the stylesheet. Swatch variables carry the factory’s own colour names: Suffolk Navy, Sumikuro, Basketweave Black, Tapestry Blue, Cork and Breen, so the filter chips speak the same vocabulary as the production floor.

Shopping Experience

Filtering built for a technical garment. The collection page opens a Refine panel covering product type, size, colour, collaboration, feature, inner layer, fit, quilting pattern and wadding weight. Wadding filters from 0g through 200g plus No wadding and Soft Unwadded.

Prices on every card. Grid cards carry name and price only, twelve at a time behind a Show More button: Mickfield £225.00, Raydon £275.00, Balmacaan Coat £455.00.

Four accordions under the buy box. Product pages stack a colour label, a size row and an Add to Bag button, then Description & Details, Materials & Care, Sizing & Fit and Delivery & Returns. The copy lists fibre content per component and a spec down to pocket count and binding.

Bag drawer and duty-paid pricing. Adding to bag opens a side drawer. A country selector covers roughly 170 markets in local currency, and a welcome panel offers to “Pay import duties and taxes at checkout for a guaranteed price”. Shipping is free over £250.

Brand Storytelling

History told through one object. The Our Story page credits founder Mrs Elliot with the first nylon quilted horse rug, then the first quilted gilet, and frames the current range as that idea moved off the stable yard.

Making, not marketing. The section headings read Being better, Experts in quilting and Made in Suffolk, and the factory is named on product pages as well as in editorial.

Notable Features

A costed repair service. A dedicated page asks customers to email or call before sending a garment back, publishes a price guide, quotes five working days and states that only Lavenham garments can be repaired.

Collaborations as a browsable category. Le Minor, Jackman, Beams, Labour and Wait and Hiut Denim appear both as filter values and as shelf links in the main menu.

Stories as a content layer. Gilet guides for men and women, a collaboration feature and the factory history sit under Stories and are linked from the homepage.
