Root Foods
Updated: September 15, 2026
Root Foods sells vacuum fried vegetable chips, hand sliced and crisped in avocado oil with sea salt, shipped to the mainland United States only. The food catalogue is a single six bag pack sold in seven options: Beet, Cauliflower, Onion, Six Mix, Tomato, Zucchini and a Variety Pack, with a Tomato Tee and a Cali Flower Canvas Tote alongside it. The chips are vegan and gluten free, and the site states its factories are free of the FDA's nine major food allergens. Built on Shopify.
Website Design
Emoji stand in for words. The header menu mixes labels and pictograms: a house for home, then products, the root, a waving hand for the about section, faq and stores. The footer repeats the trick, using a tomato where a logo would normally sit.
One typeface, set slightly heavy. Inter carries headings and body copy alike, with body weight raised to 500 so paragraphs sit close to headings in tone. No serif or display face appears anywhere.
Flat colour fields behind the packaging. The theme runs a warm off white ground alongside black and white panels, with a bright green and a magenta pink as accents. Each hero slide sets one bag against a single flat field rather than a photographic scene.
A homepage that is mostly slider. Six slides, one per vegetable, each carry a line of copy, a hashtag such as #BeetTheOrdinary or #OnionObsession, and a verb shaped button: glow up, feel the beet, get fresh, go green, crush it, obsess. A marquee above them loops the free shipping threshold.
Shopping Experience
One listing, many variants. The whole snack range resolves to a single product page at $48, with flavour picked as a variant and a quantity stepper beside it. The products link in the main nav goes straight to that page rather than to a grid.
Collections are thin. Merch holds two items, at $24 and $25. The second collection, fantastic flavors, is live but returns the message "Sorry, there are no products in this collection." Sort and filter controls still render above the empty result.
A cart drawer with an order note. Adding to cart opens a right hand panel showing the subtotal in USD, a field to add a note to the order, and the line "Taxes and shipping calculated at checkout" above the Check out button.
Brand Storytelling
Sourcing stated plainly. The Root page describes multi generational family farms, non GMO seeds and filtered water, then draws the line directly: "We don't use pesticides and we don't genetically modify our veggies."
The FAQ does the heavy lifting. It explains vacuum frying, names the mountainous region of Vietnam as the production base, lists kosher certification for every flavour except Cauliflower and Six Mix, and reproduces the California Prop 65 warning in full rather than burying it.
Notable Features
A store locator built on Stockist. The page is headed "where to find us" and adds a parenthetical asking shoppers to request the brand at their local store if none is nearby.
Policies written into the FAQ. Free shipping over $70, no international shipping, no returns on taste or texture, and replacement of defective product within seven days.
